The Enchanting Tawang

The breathtaking town of Tawang, nestled in western region of Arunachal Pradesh, North-East India is the land of the Monpa community. Tawang boasts of stunning views of the snow-covered Eastern Himalayas, making it a must-visit destination for travellers seeking untouched beauty and cultural richness.

Reaching Tawang is an adventure in itself. One must cross the mesmerizing Sela Pass, a high-altitude mountain pass that stands as a symbol of the resilience of the Monpa and Tibetan communities. Even at the end of April, the pass remained blanketed in snow, creating a surreal, postcard-perfect landscape. Tourists and locals alike were enchanted by the dreamlike scenery.

Tawang is home to the Tawang Monastery, the largest monastery in India and the second-largest in Asia. Visiting the monastery was an experience of sheer tranquillity, evoking a deep sense of contentment. Inside the main premises, the majestic Buddha statue stood illuminated by the soft morning light, created a mystical aura that left everyone in awe.

The sight of monks, including young novices clad in traditional maroon robes, was captivating. Some played musical instruments, while others carried out their daily chores, adding to the monastery’s serene yet dynamic atmosphere.

One of the most jaw-dropping views was the Tawang Monastery from a higher altitude, a sight that we were fortunate to capture through our lenses. Inspired by this magical landscape, we transformed our experience into an exclusive illustration, now featured on our beautifully designed postcards.
