Assam Tea Garden - Print Only
Tea is Assam’s identity and pride, apart from being the state’s official drink. Discovered by the British official, Robert Bruce in 1823, tea flourishes in the Upper Brahmaputra valley. Assam not only produces fifty one percent of the tea in India, but also one sixth of all the tea consumed in the world. Tea industry has contributed considerably to the state economy and generates employment for skilled as well as unskilled workers. It has also been empowering women by giving them job opportunities. So, spare a moment and cheer to the drink, the next time you hold your afternoon cup of tea.
