A Naga log drum is a traditional instrument that creates sound through deep vibrations. It is known by different names across tribes and regions of Nagaland.

Though its main purpose is to be played as a drum, it is also respected and worshipped. The tradition of making these drums is still practiced by many Naga tribes.

Usually placed in the morung (men’s dormitory), a village could have one or two log drums - their size often reflecting the size and strength of the village. In the old days, the beats of these drums carried messages across hills and valleys, announcing gatherings, celebrations, or warnings.
