Konyak Masks of Nagaland Notebook
The classic brass masks are generally made by traditional blacksmiths of the Konyak Nagas and contiguous tribal groups. These miniature trophy masks are symbolic of their prowess as headhunters. The number of masks indicated the number of heads decapitated. These heads, generally cast in brass, are worn singly or in groups of two or
more, mounted as pendants or necklaces known as Yanmung.
