The Charaideo Maidams, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a 700-year-old burial mound system of Assam’s Ahom dynasty, often compared to Egypt’s pyramids. These structures served as the final resting place for Ahom royalty and their families, reflecting the architectural mastery of artisans of medieval era. Each maidam features a hemispherical mound with an underground vault, where the deceased were interred alongside their treasured possessions, preserving a rich legacy of history and craftsmanship.
