Unique Manipur Longpi Pottery Notebook
Manipur, located in the north-eastern part of India is known for its rich ceramic heritage. The village of Longpi, located in Ukhrul district has been home to the black pottery craft which is historically a part of the pottery tradition of the Tangkhul Tribe. The traditional pottery is ideal for slow cooking meat and lentils, and also to store food. It is believed
that cooking in this pottery enhances the taste of the food as compared to other pots and pans. A unique feature of this craft is that it is crafted without a potter’s wheel using clay and black rock. This traditional craft practice is making an important place for itself as a handicraft outside Manipur.
