Bihu denotes a set of three different cultural festivals of Assam. Bihu, the most important festival of Assam is celebrated with fun and abundance by all Assamese people irrespective of caste, creed, religion, faith and belief. In a year, Bihu is celebrated three times in Assam - in the months of Maagh (the middle of January), Bohaag (Baisakh, the middle of April), and Kaati (Kartik, the middle of October). Each Bihu coincides with a distinctive phase in the farming calendar. Bihu is also used to imply Bihu dance and Bihu  folk songs.

Folk Music in Assam, as in other countries and people, is the product of a musical tradition that have evolved through a process of oral transmission. The folk music of Assam and the North Eastern region is the spontaneous musical expression of the masses of the region among different tribes. In the realm of folk music of this
region, especially among the tribal people, a dance is always associated with vocal and instrumental music. Music and musical instruments in Assam there is indeed, God's plenty. Amongst the drums, the ‘Khol’ is a terracotta two-sided drum. The ‘Dhol’ is
a double-sided barrel drum played using two wooden sticks, usually made out of bamboo and cane wood. Various other drums include the ‘Mridanga’, ‘Nagera’, the ‘Dogor’, the ‘Madol’, etc. When on a visit to the north eastern region, experience the folk music open up your soul.
